One Battle After Another

The last few months have been some of the hardest I've faced in a long time. I've been quieter than usual when it comes to my business, and I know some people may have noticed. The truth is, I've been burned out. Between my SSI being cut, my food stamps reduced, my wife and I both ending up in the hospital, me battling a UTI and my wife dealing with a UTI, pneumonia, and most recently needing a blood transfusion. It has felt like one thing after another. It's been difficult to find the motivation to work towards my goals when it seems like life keeps throwing another obstacle in front of me. As someone with a disability, depression doesn't always look the way people expect it to. Sometimes it isn't giving up. Sometimes it's simply trying to survive another day, while carrying the weight of uncertainty, financial stress, and disappointment. One of my biggest goals is to pay off my credit card and start saving for something I've dreamed about for years, taking my first vacation in 25 years. Right now, that goal feels far away, but I'm refusing to let it disappear. Lately, I've been looking into donating plasma. It's something that can help burn victims and other patients who rely on plasma treatments, while also helping me earn a little extra money. Every donation has the potential to help someone else keep fighting, and every dollar I earn moves me one step closer to paying off my credit card and building toward my future. The more I think about it, the more I realize that even though life feels overwhelming, I still have a reason to be grateful. Somewhere today, somebody lost their life. I didn't know them, but it reminds me that being alive is a gift I shouldn't take for granted. My circumstances are difficult, but they haven't taken away my purpose. I'm still here. I'm still fighting. And I'm still dreaming. And even if progress is slower than I want it to be, surviving is still progress. If you're struggling right now, whether it's depression, disability, financial hardship, or just life wearing you down, I hope you remember that moving forward doesn't always mean taking giant steps. Sometimes it simply means refusing to quit. And one more thing, stop comparing your behind-the-scenes life to someone else's highlight reel on social media. Influencers share snapshots of their lives, but those snapshots are never the whole story. They may look like they have everything together, but behind the scenes, they're human too. They have struggles, failures, fears, and bad days, just like the rest of us. Don't measure your worth by someone else's carefully edited moments. Measure it by the fact that you're still here, still fighting, and still moving forward. That's what I'm choosing to do.

When the Darkness Felt Louder Than My Voice
